When do I need a paid license?
When you register a 5th instance (or need priority support / SLA). Paid tiers start at 5 instances (Starter). You receive a signed .license file via the customer portal.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes! You can upgrade or downgrade at any time. When upgrading, you'll be prorated for the difference. When downgrading, the new rate takes effect at your next billing cycle.
What counts as a "server"?
Each SQL Server instance counts as one instance toward your tier limit. A host with 3 named instances = 3. Always On availability groups: each replica you monitor counts separately unless you use our AG-aware grouping (contact sales for large AG estates).
